Raised bed preparation

Warren Barber is a force to be reckoned with!  He single-handedly split these 16ft long lengths of storm damaged drops (donated by James King and Evan Lurie) to use for edges for our raised beds to be christened on Earth Day.  If you haven’t heard– we are having an event to introduce Alchemy Initiative to our community on April 22nd beginning at 6pm.

Things will kick off with our version of a ribbon cutting– the reinstitution of our church bell.  Then there will be a presentation and book signing by Carleen Madigan of Backyard Homestead fame.  She will be talking about how it is possible to grow a lot of the food needed for a family on a quarter of an acre of land.  We will be putting her plan in place in our development of an urban farm right here in the heart of Pittsfield (Shire City), MA.

In addition you can meet Warren who will be working on raised bed frame construction.  There will be a seed-starting table, artwork for sale including some of Crispina’s blankets, rugs, pillows, and sweaters.  Alchemy studio artisan, Diane Firtell will be showcasing her paintings and note cards.  There will be hoola hoops and more.  Music by the Chris Merenda Band and a potluck dinner will begin by eight – good weather will allow dancing and festivities to commence under the stars while chilly or otherwise inclement weather will keep us indoors warm, and happening.  Free and open to the public.
